Photoset with 23 notes
Several years back Marrowoflife (another tumblr) and I met up with Mark Tinsky of Amsmoke for an article in Pipes magazine. In the end Pipes thanked me by not using them since they were not in color. No matter. I made a friend and spent a couple days on the river.
The photos of Mark now fall into another project, moving at a typical glacial pace for me, The Montana Craftsman. As I understand it, the only job Mark has had is making fine tobacco pipes out of briar which he started in his teens as an apprentice and now makes for collectors around the globe.
So, why all the fly fishing photos? It became apparent pretty quickly that making pipes, which can be done anywhere he can set up his shop, is but an avenue leading straight to the Missouri river in and around Wolf Creek, Montana.
Hit a frustrating flaw in the briar? F#%k it. Let’s go look for trout.
The Missouri had a warm blanket of midges on this day. I think we had better chance winning the lottery than catching trout on a dry fly.
