The making of the pipe.  Part 1.

All pipes start with a piece of briar which comes from Greece, Israel, and a couple of other places around the Mediterranean.  Some of Marks pipes are free-hand shapes taking into account special characteristics of a particular piece of briar.  Others are specific repeatable shapes.  Depending on the outcome the final pipe may be “blasted”, dyed, natural or a combination of those finishes.  

Mark is probably the only guy who warms his shop, in part, with Grecian briar scraps.
